ABOUT US

The Department of Botany was established in the year 1946 and Botany subject was started at UG level. The Department started post-graduate classes in Botany in 1950. The subject Environmental Science was started at postgraduate level in the year 1988. Looking to the popularity of the subject, it was also started at undergraduate level with Zoology and Chemistry as one combination and Geology and Chemistry as another combination in the year 1991. Teaching of Microbiology subject has started at under graduate level in year 1999 with Zoology and Chemistry as one combination and Botany and Chemistry as another combination.

The Department along with undergraduate combination in Botany, Microbiology and Environmental Science also offer postgraduate course M. Sc. in Botany and Environmental Science. It is the only govt. college in the state offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Science. One dissertation /project work is compulsory for M.Sc. IV semester students in lieu of one paper. The project work is carried out in national level Institute, Laboratories or Industries.

Academic Society

The academic society of Botany and Environmental science comprises post graduate student of the subjects as office bearer, all other PG students are the member of this society .The society conduct lectures of eminent scientist and experts of diverse field in the subjects. The society also organize quiz, debates and other competitions to inculcate the feeling of confidence in them. The society also conduct local excursion and annual excursion within state or outside state.

Research Facilities

The Different areas of Botany & Environmental Science on which the research is going on are industrial pollution. remediation of pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, biomedical waste management, vermiculture etc. There is a well equipped computerized environmental research laboratory is available with modern facilities. The laboratory is equipped with instrument like JENWAY ion meter, ORION ion selective electrode Spectrophotometer BOD incubator, Flame photometer, Shaker, High volume Air sampler, Respirable, Dust sampler, DO analyzer, PH meter, Turbidity meter, Derionose water analysis kit along with other infrastructure facilities. Recently the Department has also procured deep centrifuge, MIPS and LCD projector.

The Department of Botany and Environment science has also very rich library comprising books, journals, periodical abstract, proceeding etc along with more then 7000 books. There is also a student’s library.
