DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY, INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY

1. History

This Department was established in 1946, when Biology group in B.Sc. was introduced. The Department started Post Graduation in 1950. The subject Industrial Chemistry was started in 1990-91 at under-Graduate level with combination of Chemistry and Geology, looking to its popularity and scope of self-employment and jobs to the students. The Department has received permission from State Govt. to start Industrial Chemistry at P.G. level and it is in process. The Department started Biochemistry at undergraduate level with the combination of Chemistry & Zoology in the year 1999. The Department has got clearance from State Govt. to start P.G. in Biochemistry.

The department has formulated a dynamic and relevant curriculum according to UGC New Delhi and possesses an excellent infrastructure. The basic aim of this department is to introduce new combination of theoretical studies, new technologies in experimental application level and research oriented activities. To enhance effectiveness of teaching process and efficiency of the students, use of Internet, the staff members of this department frequently use Audio-Visual methods as 3D system of teaching. The department is globally recognized for its outstanding research in biomedical polymer science, nanocarriers as drug vehicles, polymer synthesis, natural products and coordination chemistry.

A unique feature of the department is the inclusion of Radiochemistry Experiments at Post Graduation level, which has made this department and college to be the first institution in the state to include Radioactivity Curriculum. The department has a C level Radiochemistry Laboratory also.
